Your experience with snuff will depend on the type of mixture you consume. Some preparations only induce a mild experience, as if you had had a strong cup of coffee. Others, depending on the plants used, can cause a powerful and long-lasting psychedelic experience.

Taking rapé in the traditional way takes two people. Your ritual partner uses a bamboo or bone pipe (called “Tepi” in Brazil) with which he blows the mixture into your nostrils. There is another type of pipe called “Kuripe” that is used for self-application. The Kuripe is V-shaped and connects the mouth to the nose, so you can blow the mixture yourself

Whether it is easier to use a Tepi or a Kurip rod is an open debate. For novice users, the presence of a partner makes the second puff easier, as the first can be quite overwhelming for some people. However, a Kuripe pipe can offer greater control over the experience. The important thing is that you blow the powder into both nostrils to ensure a balanced flow of energy

The optimal dose of rapé will depend on your tolerance and the mixture you use. For starters, we recommend a pea-sized dose for each nostril. After some experimentation, you can increase or decrease the dosage until you find the one that works best for you.

When taking it alone, be sure to familiarize yourself with the use of the Kuripe pipe. Start with a half-pea-sized amount and place it on the nose end of the pipe. With this end in your nose, blow the mixture out the other end of the tube. Again, with a little experimentation, you will know if the blow should be shorter or more intense, or longer or delicate. Don’t forget to change nostrils once you’ve blown the first one.
